Phones For Food

Phones-for-food is the newest initiative of the thINK Food project that involves the collection and recycling of used cell phones to the benefit of food banks that are members of the Canadian and Ontario Association of Food Banks. Each phone can be worth a carton of milk, a jar of peanut butter, or even a whole meal. Please visit Phones For Food for more information.

Important Changes to the Phones for Food Program!

A renewed box collection program: Rogers has a new cell phone box (now red) in all of their stores so that they are replenished and will continue collecting for you. This includes all Rogers Wireless dealer stores, Rogers Plus stores, and for the first time, Rogers Video stores.

A widely distributed mail back bag – Official Release February 27, 2007: One of the most exciting new developments is the production and distribution of a mail back bag for cell phone donations: a “postage paid”, plastic envelope that will hold approximately two cell phones and can be dropped in any mail box at the convenience of the donor.

This bag will be inserted into EVERY new cell phone box that Rogers sells in Canada. That means that everyone who buys a Rogers cell phone will be able to donate their old cell phone immediately and easily at the moment they deactivate it.

On-line shipping labels for easy and fast donations: Any collection site or individual donor that wants to donate their used cell phone or a collection of used cell phones will be able to print off the Canada Post shipping label directly from the project website and send in their phones in any envelope or box.

StudentPhones

StudentPhones, the campus cell phone vendor for Rogers Wireless, has taken on the task of setting up and promoting the Phones-For-Food program on multiple university and college campuses in partnership with the student union and any other appropriate campus partners.

REMEMBER: It is only cell phones and not the accessories that are of value for the Food Bank.
